American Council on Education (ACE) Seminar

Understanding military transcripts to ensure academic integrity

Tuesday, October 21, 2008
1:00–4:30 p.m.
Milton Hall 50

Cynthia Bruce, Associate Director, American Council on Education
Michele Spires, Assistant Director, American Council on Education

By 2011, Fort Bliss and White Sands are expected to grow by over 20,000 military personnel plus their family members. Because of our location and emphasis on education that meets anywhere, anytime learning needs, NMSU is seeking to become a leading provider of educational opportunities for our regional military personnel.

This seminar on evaluating military transcripts is targeted to academic advisors, faculty, career counselors, and enrollment management personnel. Advisors will learn how to assign college credits for military courses and experiences to ensure the integrity of the review process; others will understand military transcripts and their genesis.

American Council on Education's (ACE) evaluation process is thorough and rigorous. It ensures that ACE-approved courses maintain high levels of academic integrity and consistency. The review process will be discussed from the selection of faculty reviewers to posting the credit recommendation.

Since 1945, the American Council on Education (ACE) has worked with the US Department of Defense to award college credits based on military training and experiences. Their online Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services is the standard for recognizing learning acquired in the military.

More than 2,300 colleges and universities recognize ACE-endorsed transcripts as official documentation of military experiences and accurate records of applicable ACE credit recommendations.

This session is brought to you through a collaboration of ACE, NMSU's Division of Student Success, All Things Military Effort and Teaching Academy.
