Web-based Courses
Earn high school credit and/or college credit while studying at a distance. Project MESH teaches web-based, dual credit courses linking engineering and mathematics. These courses have been developed by Project MESH with the goal of increasing the flow of underrepresented ethnic minorities into science and engineering careers.
Online courses for Fall 2008
Suitable for both high school and community college students
38823 C E 141 / 37288 MATH 151: The Mathematics of Hydraulic Engineering
This distance education course presents mathematics in the context of actual engineering problems. The five applied projects are accessible to high school students who have completed Algebra II or community college students who have completed MATH 120 Intermediate Algebra or the equivalent course. Dr. Nirmala Khandan, John W. Clark Professor, Civil Engineering, developed the course material and will be the course instructor. Students may register for either the Civil Engineering course or the Mathematics course.
38753 CHEM 152 / 38752 MATH 152: The Molecular World
This distance education course presents mathematics as it is used to explore behaviors on a molecular level. Through web-based simulations, students will develop and understanding of why materials behave the way they do. One year of high school chemistry and Algebra II or NMSU MATH 120 Intermediate Algebra is required. Dr. David Smith developed the chemistry course material and will be the course instructor.
