Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning
Prerequisites
Before seeking admission to the OTL program, you must:
- Have a Bachelors Degree or equivalent.
- Have a need and or strong interest in becoming skilled in online education.
- Already be admitted to NMSU the NMSU Graduate School or in the process of being admitted. See the Distance Education Tuition, Admission, Financial Aid page for more information.
Application procedure
Applications are accepted year-round. However, acceptance into the program occurs only in the Fall semester.
Complete the online OTL Application form. You are highly encouraged to contact a College of Extended Learning advisor to guide your through the process.
Note: All participants must complete the application whether they are taking individual courses or the entire program.
Before you begin the application, prepare an answer (in at least 750 words) to the following questions:
- Why are you interested in the program and how will it benefit your career goals?
- What is your need for taking this program?
- How would you describe yourself as a learner?
- As an online student, what are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
- How do you envision your role as a student in a new program?
- What expectations do you have for the program?
Review
A committee from the College of Extended Learning will review your application packet within two weeks of receiving it. Only complete application forms will be reviewed.
Acceptance
Acceptance to the program will be based on:
- A review of your completed OTL Application form. A College of Extended Learning advisor will contact you via email regarding your status.
- Successful admission to the NMSU Graduate School. The Graduate School will send you a letter informing you of your status.
